Iran has announced plans to introduce a new mechanism to regulate maritime activities in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, signaling a significant development in regional trade and security dynamics.

Head of Iran’s National Security Commission, Ebrahim Azizi, revealed that a professional system has been developed to control vessel traffic along routes designated by Iran in the Strait.

He stated that the mechanism will soon be officially announced and is designed to streamline navigation while enhancing oversight in one of the world’s busiest oil transit corridors.

According to Azizi, commercial ships cooperating with Iran will benefit from the system, suggesting preferential treatment for compliant operators.

The plan also includes charging fees for specialized maritime services under the new framework, indicating a structured and potentially revenue-generating approach.

He further noted that the designated route would remain closed to operators associated with what he described as the so-called “freedom project,” highlighting geopolitical tensions surrounding maritime access.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi commented on broader economic tensions, stating that the United States would face real challenges as its debt increases and mortgage rates rise.

The development is expected to draw international attention, given the Strait of Hormuz’s critical role in global energy supply and regional stability.
